Australian Brumby Challange still Wild to Wonderful

Organised by the Victorian Brumby Association, the 2024 Australian Brumby Challenge was held at Equitana in Melbourne during 14-17 November. This year Reserve Champion went to horse trainer Zoe Mullens and her ‘wild’ companion, Spartan. Spartan is one of the wild brumbies saved by the Barmah Brumby Preservation Group, after the government decided to eradicate the herd last year. Zoe paid tribute to the light horse for her and Spartan’s freestyle. Spartan laid flat on the ground and Zoe, in a replica of a World War I light horseman’s uniform, lay across him. Brumby shooting report released, and rejected

AN upper house committee released its final report on Wednesday into aerial shooting of brumbies in Kosciuszko National Park, but the report has been rejected by the chair of the committee. Chair of the committee, the Hon Emma Hurst MLC, said: “From the outset of this inquiry, it was clear that aerial shooting of brumbies in Kosciuszko National Park is a highly controversial topic. NSW government accepts findings of review into brumby rehoming program in Kosciuszko National Park

It has made four key recommendations to strengthen the program, which the NSW Environment Department has accepted in principle.
