The ABA is receiving an increasing number of phone calls, emails and messages from folk concerned about the future of our Snowy Brumbies and wanting to know how they can help. We really appreciate the support and interest and suggest the following:
i) Sign the petitions! The ‘stop aerial culling’ petition is now around 260,000. Let’s get it even higher. And if you’re in NSW please sign the Parliamentary petitions that are circulating. See an earlier post for links to these.
ii) Write respectful letters to key NSW politicians, explaining that humane treatment and preservation of a sustainable brumby population is important to you. We suggest writing to the Premier of NSW Chris Mins (of****@*************ov.au), or to the Environment Minister Penny Sharpe (of****@*********************ov.au.) If you live in the Monaro area or SE NSW write to the Member for Monaro Steve Whan (mo****@****************ov.au) as he has been influential in promoting aerial culling.
iii) Attend a rally! A series of rallies in support of the brumbies future are being organised for 1 August in different parts of NSW and across the country. Watch out for information on these.
iv) Donate to a brumby sanctuary or rehomer. These folk are doing an amazing job. Even enough for a bale of hay helps a lot. And it’s a way of saying thanks to a very compassionate and skilled group of people.
The groundswell of opposition to aerial culling is increasing as more and more people are realising how close we are to losing a unique and historical group of horses. We believe that we are the ONLY country in the world still using aerial culling to manage wild horses. Keep that wave breaking!!! Spread the word!
