The Bostiber Institute for Wildlife Fertility Control hosted the webinar series, “Mitigating Wild Boar Conflict Around the World: The Potential for Using Fertility Control,” for three consecutive Thursdays in June 2021. This workshop series, which included 18 speakers, was intended to provide participants with a better understanding of:
- The various challenges associated with managing wild boar globally as well as perspectives from diverse stakeholder groups on the role that fertility control could play in mitigating conflicts;
- The human dimensions associated with wild boar management and the impact human values and attitudes have on innovations in wild boar population management methods (i.e. fertility control);
- Wild boar population surveying and modelling techniques that can be used to incorporate fertility control into existing wild boar management programs;
- The latest information on the development and implementation of wild boar fertility control tools, methods, and agents;
- The regulatory and logistical challenges that will need to be considered for the role of fertility control in wild boar management to become a reality.
