Overview

Small fluctuating numbers of wild horse occur in the ACT, particularly at the southern border with NSW.

About 200 horses were present in the Namadgi National Park in the 1960’s but a large snow event in 1964 is believed to have cut numbers drastically; in 1987 the remaining 33 horses were culled.

In 2001 small groups started migrating between Kosciuszko National Park and the Bimberi Ranges depending on climatic conditions.
